Direct Streaming to MED-EL Cochlear Implant Systems

Mar 20, 2023

March 20, 2023 – (Innsbruck, Austria): The possibilities for cochlear implant users to stream their favorite music and shows directly from their latest devices are growing every day. Most recently, Amazon Fire TV updated their services so that people who use hearing aids and cochlear implants can benefit from a range of accessibility features to help them increase their streaming enjoyment.  Alexander Hofer, Corporate Director of Product Management at MED-EL provides an update about how this affects MED-EL cochlear implant users.

At MED-EL we design our cochlear implant systems to ensure that our users can live life to the full and without limitations. That’s why our implants feature cutting-edge sound coding strategies and electrode technology that deliver the closest to natural hearing possible; and our audio processors are equipped with features that enable people to have great listening experiences, anywhere, anytime.

We know that being able to stream music, films, and audio direct to audio processors is important for our users, which is why we adopt a customer-centered approach to our new product development. In fact, since 2021 AudioStream for SONNET and SONNET 2 has allowed cochlear implants users to directly stream a wide range of devices including iOS and Android devices, tablets, TVs, and other streaming systems thanks to our built-in Audio Streaming for Hearing Aids (ASHA) and Made for iPhone protocols. This also makes it possible to stream content from the Amazon Fire TV Cube with MED-EL.

Because technology changes at a fast pace, we constantly test the latest technology with our audio processors so that our users are confident about their streaming options. For more information, people can visit our online streaming compatibility database, which is regularly updated, and read our recent blog ‘The Ultimate Guide to Streaming With MED-EL Devices’ which is available at https://blog.medel.com/the-ultimate-guide-to-streaming-with-med-el-devices Alexander Hofer, Corporate Director of Product Management, MED-EL.
