Photovoltaic system energizes MED-EL headquarters in Innsbruck

has marked a major milestone in its commitment to environmental sustainability. In a significant move toward cleaner and greener energy solutions, the company has installed a state-of-the-art photovoltaic system at its company headquarters in Innsbruck.

More than 1,600 people are based at the MED-EL headquarters in Innsbruck, spanning production facilities, research, and business services all working towards innovative technologies to treating hearing loss around the world. The company is actively pursuing a range of initiatives to minimise carbon emissions, encompassing the adoption of renewable energy sources, new buildings designed to be energy efficient, working with its suppliers, and the establishment of carbon reduction targets. The installation of these solar roofs is the company’s latest step to help foster a more environmentally conscious workplace.

Solar power lights up MED-EL HQ

A total of 1,250 high-performance photovoltaic panels have recently been installed across three areas of the MED-EL headquarters in Innsbruck, establishing it as one of the largest solar installations in the city. This system incorporates the latest advancements in solar technology, ensuring optimal energy production and efficiency. The new system is expected to generate nearly 500.000 kWh annually, amounting to an annual output that matches the electricity needs of approximately 140 households.* "By harnessing the power of the sun to meet some of our energy needs, we are making a tangible contribution to reduce our impact on the environment and a significant step forward in our journey toward minimising our overall carbon footprint," commented Mirjam Peterschelka, Specialist for Work Safety & Environment at MED-EL and the responsible Project Manager.

MED-EL utilizes sustainable energy, including using 100% eco-friendly electricity across the site. The company’s latest state-of-the-art buildings were also designed to be energy efficient, using renewable energy sources for heating or cooling. The installation of this photovoltaic system that amounted to an investment of over 500,000 Euros is part of MED-EL's ongoing commitment to embracing innovative technologies that enhance the company’s environmental performance while supporting its mission to restore the loss of senses and other body functions through implantable, individualized solutions that improve quality of life and possibilities.
