Press Statement on MED-EL’s Resolution of PPP Loan Matter

Sep 5, 2025

DURHAM, NC – September 5, 2025

MED-EL Corporation has reached an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice to resolve the government’s inquiry into a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan received during the COVID-19 pandemic. The resolution is structured as a civil settlement under a breach of contract theory, and includes the return of the loan proceeds to the government.

While MED-EL firmly believes that it acted in good faith and in accordance with the program’s intent, the company has agreed to the settlement. Importantly, the settlement includes a release under the False Claims Act, providing finality and certainty for the company moving forward. The agreement does not include any admission of liability by MED-EL.

The U.S. government expressly recognized MED-EL’s substantial cooperation during the course of the inquiry, which contributed to the resolution of the matter on these terms. MED-EL remains committed to the highest standards of compliance and integrity in all aspects of its operations and appreciates the professional and collaborative approach taken by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Boston.
