Anatomy-Based Fitting
Precise Fitting Designed for You
Anatomy-based fitting allows your audiologist to offer a more personalized and fine-tuned fitting so that you can have the best hearing experience possible.

Natural Hearing and Cochlear Implants
In natural hearing, each pitch or frequency of sound activates a specific hair cell in a particular place in your cochlea. It’s similar to a piano keyboard stretched along the cochlea, from the base to the tip. A high-pitched bird chirp activates hair cells near the beginning, while a lower-pitched dog’s bark stimulates cells deeper in the cochlea.
This place-pitch matching is so precise that if a specific hair cell is activated, your brain automatically perceives it as that pitch. Using MED-EL's anatomy-based fitting tool, your audiologist can adjust your implant settings to match your electrode position, ensuring your cochlear implant stimulates the correct frequency for each sound.

Anatomy-Based Fitting is a unique MED-EL approach to customize your sound program after surgery.
Your audiologist can use OTOPLAN* after surgery to pinpoint the exact position of each electrode in your cochlea and then adjust the settings of your implant system to complement the actual fit of the electrode.
Only MED-EL offers this unique and individualized approach to help you reach every piano key and hear all the richness of natural sound.

Why Is This Important?
Life is more than just hearing voices and understanding speech. Music also plays a large part of our lives—music is everywhere.
We've designed our cochlear implants with music appreciation in mind. Our recipients can hear music the way it's meant to sound—not flat or distorted but rich and full. MED-EL offers the only FDA-approved cochlear implants that can claim that our recipients can enjoy music with their cochlear implant.
“Music produces a kind of pleasure which human
nature cannot do without."
