Eric’s DualSync Experience
After serving in the military, Eric Murray developed hearing loss in both ears and began wearing hearing aids at age 49. As his hearing loss progressed in his early 60’s, he started to notice he was missing out on conversations around him. That’s when he decided to switch to Starkey: “Because of my severe hearing loss, the VA wanted me in the most powerful hearing aid. So, they switched me to Starkey about 4 years ago,” Eric recalls. But, when it became apparent the hearing aids alone were not improving his hearing, his audiologist suggested looking into cochlear implants.
“I chose MED-EL in part because of the potential for dual streaming with my Starkey hearing aids.”
In June of 2025, MED-EL and Starkey joined forces to release DualSync, a bimodal streaming partnership enabling Apple technology to seamlessly stream to compatible Starkey hearing aids and MED-EL cochlear implants. The partnership brought together the strength of Starkey’s industry-leading hearing aids with the innovation behind MED-EL’s cochlear implants, creating a seamless and unified wireless audio experience for bimodal users like Eric who rely on both technologies. As one of the world’s first patients to use DualSync, Eric couldn’t be happier with his listening experience.
“I’ve never been able to stream to both my hearing aid and my MED-EL implant at the same time, so now with DualSync, I’m not missing out! All the streaming audio on Netflix, Hulu, and even apps like DuoLingo is high quality and very clear. I can take a phone call in a noisy environment and still hear everything. And in everyday conversation, I don’t have to ask people to repeat themselves multiple times. Generally, I’m hearing and understanding so much better than I have in many years.”

When asked to summarize his listening experience with DualSync, Eric said: “I’m so satisfied with my overall listening experience. Getting the MED-EL cochlear implant was a big step forward, and DualSync has added even more ease and improvements to my quality of life. My only regret is that I did not do it sooner.”
