Electric Acoustic Stimulation (EAS) is designed to fit the unique needs of individuals with partial deafness. EAS combines the advantages of acoustic amplification and cochlear implant technology in one system
. The system consists of both an internal and an external component.
The implant, either the SONATA or PULSAR, is surgically placed under the skin. It consists of a housing for the electronics, a receiving antenna and a magnet that holds the coil in place behind the ear. An especially soft FLEX electrode is gently inserted into the cochlea during surgery.
The DUET 2 Audio Processor is worn behind the ear. It consists of a control unit and a battery pack, an ear hook for dedicated acoustic amplification, and a coil that transmits information through the skin to the implant.
