VIBRANT SOUNDBRIDGE
Round Window Clinical Trial

The Vibrant Soundbridge device includes two components: the Vibrating Ossicular Prosthesis (VORP) and the Audio Processor (AP). The VORP includes a tiny vibrating component called the Floating Mass Transducer (FMT). Please click here to learn more about the Vibrant Soundbridge and its traditional use to treat moderate-to-severe sensorineural hearing loss.

Traditionally, the Vibrant Soundbridge surgery involves placing the FMT on one of the three small bones of hearing in the middle ear. However, a new application for the Vibrant Soundbridge has been developed and is currently in clinical trial in the USA. This investigational use for the device involves placing the tiny Floating Mass Transducer in the round window (a middle ear structure). This may alleviate both mixed and conductive hearing losses by allowing the FMT to very slightly vibrate the Round Window membrane.

Candidates for this investigational treatment must meet the following key criteria:

  • Eighteen years of age or older
  • Conductive or mixed hearing loss where the conductive component (“bone line”) has been stable for at least six months
  • Unsuccessful history with traditional amplification
  • Further criteria are available upon request from the MED-EL USA Research Team.
