The MAESTRO
Cochlear Implant System
MAESTRO directly stimulates the nerve fibers of the cochlea with electrical signals. These signals are transmitted via the hearing nerve to the brain where they are interpreted as sound. MAESTRO consists of both an internal and an external component.
INTERNALImplant
The implant, either the MED-EL CONCERT or SONATA is surgically placed under the skin just behind the ear. It consists of a durable housing, which contains electronics, as well as a receiving antenna and a magnet. An electrode array is gently inserted into the cochlea.
EXTERNAL
Audio processor
The audio processor is worn on the ear. It consists of a control unit, a battery pack, and a coil that transmits information through the skin to the receiver in the implant. MED‑EL
offers the switch-free
OPUS 2 featuring the FineTuner™.
