Clinical studies consistently report highly successful restoration of hearing with the MED-EL EAS™ Hearing System that combines amplified natural hearing with cochlear implant stimulation.[1]
Results of international studies reveal a highly synergistic effect between acoustic amplification and cochlear implant technology, particularly evident in speech understanding in noise. In addition, EAS™ users report higher sound quality and improved melody recognition when listening to music.[2]
The graph below presents results from a study in which participants were asked to repeat monosyllables heard in quiet. When using hearing aids alone, 13% of the monosyllables were repeated correctly. With cochlear implant use alone, 61% correct responses were achieved. With EAS™, performance increased to 75% correct responses; a result that is more than five times better compared to that of a hearing aid alone.[3]
