The OPUS 2 is the first speech processor worldwide with a switch-free design. This means that changes to settings are made “on the go”, without removing the processor from the ear and without interrupting your hearing.
The FineTuner is not required for typical daily use: the OPUS 2 automatically activates the same program, volume and sensitivity settings it had when it was switched off. Indeed, experience has shown that most MED-EL recipients rarely need to make changes to their speech processor settings.
The large buttons on the FineTuner make it very easy to use – particularly advantageous for people who have difficulties seeing or using small controls. For bilateral MED-EL users, one FineTuner is used to make adjustments to both speech processors.
The switch-free design is an important safety feature for infants and small children: speech processor settings cannot be changed accidentally when a child touches the processor. In addition, like the keylock on a cellular phone, the FineTuner’s controls can be locked, either completely or for certain functions.
