OPUS 2 is the first speech processor worldwide that is designed to be operated with a remote control unit. The clean and elegant styling of the OPUS 2 is characterized by the absence of any visible switches, buttons, dials or toggles. The FineTuner is not required for typical daily use: the OPUS 2 automatically activates the same program, volume and sensitivity settings it had when it was last switched off. Indeed, experience has shown that most MED-EL recipients rarely need to make changes to their speech processor settings during the day.

The switch-free design is an important safety feature for infants and small children: speech processor settings cannot be changed accidentally when a child touches the processor. In addition, like the keylock on a cellular phone, the FineTuner's controls can be locked, either completely or for certain functions.
